Description: This gene encodes a classical cadherin and member of the cadherin superfamily. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, at least one of which encodes a preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate a calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecule and glycoprotein. This protein plays a role in the establishment of left-right asymmetry, development of the nervous system and the formation of cartilage and bone. |

Description: Goat polyclonal to CDH2. CDH2 is a classical member of the cadherin superfamily. This protein is a calcium dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein comprised consists of 5 cadherin repeats in the extracellular domain, one trans membrane domain, and a highly conserved intracellular domain. It has been shown to play an essential role in normal neuronal development, which is implicated in an array of processes including neuronal differentiation, migration, axon growth and fasciculation. |

Description: N-cadherin, also known as Cadherin-2 (CDH2) or Neural Cadherin (NCAD), is a transmembrane cell adhesion molecule that was originally detected in nervous tissue. It plays an important role in embryogenesis, being involved in gastrulation and neural crest development. N-cadherin is found is cancer cells and allows for transendothelial migration, which is a critical process in the metastasis of cancer. Overexpression and disorderly arrangement of N-cadherin has been noted in dilated cardiomyopathy. It has been suggested that, when considered in adjunct with the status of a number of additional cell-cell adhesion molecules, missense mutations in N-cadherin may be a potential indicator of obsessive-compulsive disorder and Tourette disorder. |
