Former President Daniel Arap Moi has challenged regional retailer Nakumatt Holdings to step up its expansion programmes locally and in the East African region.
Retired President Moi want Nakumatt to venture far and wide
While singling out what he described as a vast retail market in Juba, South Sudan, Moi noted that Kenyan firm has taken a positive lead in helping foster regional trade.
Speaking during the official opening of Nakumatt Nakuru, former President Moi also challenged Nakumatt to establish marketing partnerships with local farmers to boost agricultural produce marketing locally and in the region.
“You are a Kenyan success story and I’d wish to see you expanding further as far as South Sudan,” Moi said.
“Given your success, I do not expect you to spend time lamenting about poor economic conditions, I want you to put your heads high and rebuild where the economy is not doing well.”
During the ceremony, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul Shah assured the former president that Nakumatt is fast tracking its regional expansion programme.
Nakumatt, he added has also established product development alliances with local agricultural producers as part of the firm’s efforts to provide a market channel for locally produced goods.
“We are now selling Kenyan tea and related products in our outlets in Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda and have also introduced Rwanda and Tanzanian coffee for sale in the Kenyan market,” said Shah.
After a 20-year leave of absence from its hometown, Nakumatt Holdings has officially retraced its roots, making a business comeback to Nakuru town marked by the opening of the new ultra-modern Nakumatt Nakuru hypermarket.
And as an early Christmas gift, the Rift Valley town, which holds a sentimental value for Nakumatt Holdings, will now proudly host the firm’s 36th branch located at the new Westside Mall.
The opening of the new Sh250million Nakumatt Nakuru branch is also set to revolutionalise Nakuru’s retail market scene. The construction of the new Ultra-Modern Westside Mall and the re-entry of Nakumatt is expected to radically transform Nakuru’s trading landscape as major business names head back to the town.
Nakumatt, which traces its business roots to Nakuru town via its earlier trading name Nakuru Mattresses, has unveiled a fully stocked hypermarket covering more than 70,000square foot shopping floor space.
The opening of Nakumatt Nakuru also comes hot on the heels of Nakumatt’s Moshi recent
